Author: John Grisham
Although the “The Reckoning” is a tad too long and digresses into WWII history for a bit too long, it's a fine piece of work that sustains one’s interest throughout.
In a Shakespearean sort of way, this book is a tragedy, a continuing descent into a set of problems the characters have to live through, suffer through and finally live with as the book comes to its very troubling and surprising ending. Grisham is a master storyteller and he takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride with this lengthy novel. I actually ended up liking this book a lot.
If you can’t stomach war stories, then this is probably not the book for you because a good part of it is about the main character’s time in the military. But once that time period passes, you will understand why Grisham spent so much time telling that piece of the story.
Hold on until the end, because The Reckoning is probably one of Grisham’s most suspenseful novels yet!
