Author: Eric Bishop
I received author Eric Bishop’s debut novel “The Body Man” as a late Christmas present. Upon completion, I can only wish that I would have read it sooner because it would have definitely been one of my ‘top’ favorite reads for 2021. What an outstanding political espionage thriller!
Eric Bishop tells a complex but superb tale of espionage, of betrayal by the President of the United States and reveals how the ‘Deep State’ can operate and threat the national security of the United States. He created such an elaborate, intermingling plot and sub plots with such detail, I kept going back and re-reading certain scenes just because I was so fascinated by the creative writing.
The Body Man is a fast-paced ‘apolitical’ thriller that captivated my attention and kept me engaged until the last page. It resembled a jigsaw puzzle that took time and patience to put together. It was also somewhat unnerving while putting the pieces in place, but once completed, it was a beautiful piece of work.
The plot was plausible, and the authenticity of Bishop’s writing was just exceptional! Each character was well-developed - I really enjoyed the working relationship between FBI agents Eli Payne and Kat Stone. And the sarcastic and descriptive dialogue throughout the book carried the story.
There are many whispered secrets in Washington and its corruption is becoming more and more blatant with each election year, but Bishop does a really good job in delineating these things in this storyline and keeps the reader engaged and intrigued. My only critique of this wonderful novel is the very inadequate book cover artwork. Too simple and totally unassuming for the amazing content inside. Other than that, The Body Man by Eric Bishop is ‘literally’ one of the best thrillers I’ve read in years!
